I love seeing the process (and the amount of unused covers, yikes!). Thanks for sharing these. I'm sort of drawn to the "almost final" version where he went with tattoo-like colors. However, I think the final in brighter tones was the correct choice.
I still prefer the book’s original title which makes me quite like the rejected cover with the sliced out photo of the woman revealing the title underneath. But the final chosen cover is much more mass market and better for the system of covers for the books that came afterwards.
This gives us such a better appreciation for the chosen option, and at the challenge of making that choice. It reminds me of a Goergia O’Keefe exhibit of her sketches up to her final works that was very inspiring. Thanks for sharing!
Very cool seeing all of the covers! Hardly relevant, but I just watched the movie again, and I’m again disappointed that they never finished the trilogy. (The David Fincher one.)
Honestly the white-on-white version it's pretty cool, maybe with a bolder/sans serif typeface would have worked even better. I love seeing the discarded designs, I always wonder "which one of these versions would have I picked up at the bookstore?"
the dragon with the girl tattoo cracked me UP hahaha! But it was so fascinating to see this design process!

Based on my experience, this probably isn't even all of the unused ones!
OMG!

ME TOO. It's great.
