I love hearing the background of this! I think both covers work super well (having read the book) but they appeal to two different markets. The hardcover has that definite Catherine Newman vibe: what I think of as the literary mom market. The paperback appeals more to the Gen Z lit girl aesthetic, very Coco Mellors.

Astute analysis!

Yes those are exactly the two authors/books I thought of when I saw this, too.

Fisher, I am so curious to hear how Hazel sells in your bookstore in paperback — if this new vibe/appeal turns into new/different readers.

I will have to keep an eye out! 😊

I’d probably buy both 😬🥹🤗 The first one speaks to me the most though. I’m looking forward to reading your book.

Interesting evolution. I would pick up the paperback based on the cover alone. I am in the process of choosing my cover and the concepts I originally thought I wanted have changed drastically. In the earlier editions I was focused solely on the inciting incident. Seeing your two covers together jolted me. Covers and the blurb are how I decide to buy a book.
