This is a process diary for the creation of a book based on this newsletter, I Can Tell Your Book Was Self-Published. It is for my wonderful paid subscribers.

I haven’t worked on the book much lately. If I’m being honest, I’ve been a bit depressed, unmotivated, and overwhelmed by the many small problems and obligations that add up to make a life. But I feel like I’ve turned a corner and work will resume soon.
I have paid the deposit invoice for my book cover, though, so there’s no turning back. Now that money’s on the table, I feel comfortable sharing that I hired my friend
to design the front cover for I Can Tell Your Book Was Self-Published (I’m going to do the full cover).Jay wrote a guest How to Design A Book Cover post for this newsletter back in February. He is a terrific designer, and, importantly, I think he and I share a similar sensibility. He was my first choice, and I was thrilled that he was excited by the meta idea of someone else designing the cover and me writing about the process.
